The Reyes bloodline holds the council through craft and control, licensing designs from a guarded archive of pre-Collapse knowledge. Caravans queue at the gates; tariffs, patents, and guilds reappear – along with spies.
Beyond the walls, rival settlements turn science into weapons: saltpeter works and pressure bombs, armored tractors on iron tracks, signal jammers that blind the telegraph net. Water rights, ore veins, and rail junctions become borders worth dying for.
In the south, a new empire rises. War stands at the doorstep, and Haven Nine must rally old allies – and forge new ones. Rumors speak of distant settlements beyond the desert, in the relic lands of East Asia. Ron Reyes sets out on his most dangerous journey yet to find them – and to bring them back in time.
